Camp Junkanoo

Here I am at Camp JunkanooI went to Camp Junkanoo. It was lots of fun. I got to play with children from other places in the US as well as from other countries. I met 2 children from Canada and also 2 children from England.

Even though we were from many different places, we all like to play the same games.

At Camp Junkanoo we play with the computer, we play games, we do many different crafts and we do many fun things.

We went to the town. I learned that many VERY big cruise ships come from the USA to the Bahamas.

Do you know the difference between a ship and a boat?
I think it is only that boats are smaller than ships.

My Grandma and I watching the ships come in

My grandma and I watching the shipsThis is the ship we watched come inIn town there are many things to see and places to eat.

We also went to have lunch at Senior Frogs. You can see us at Senior Frogs.

There is also a place they call the straw market.

They sell baskets made of straw and carvings of wood.

You can also go for a ride with a horse. You can also go for a ride with a horse.

Here is a picture of me meeting one of the horses.

At first I wanted to meet the horse, but then I was a little bit afraid.

Have any of my friends pet a horse before?
Maybe some of you have also been very brave and rode a horse before!!!

Lots of Different food too

Here is grandma and I having chicken at the food fairHere is the Philippine food standWe went to an International Cultural Weekend.

There were people (and food) from all over the world!

Some people came from Asia - like China, India, Japan and the Philippines.

Some people came from Africa - like Nigeria and South Africa.

And many people came from the Caribbean - like the Bahamas (where we are now), Cuba and Haiti.

There were also people from the United States of America (USA). The Bahamas is not part of the USA. I am in a different country.

The different people sang and did dances from their countries. But mostly, they made food from their countries. I like the chicken from the Philippines. Here is a picture of grandma and I having chicken from the Philippines.

I am also learning about Christopher Columbus

The map where Columbus might have landed in the BahamasStatue of ColumbusJust like in class, I am also learning about Christopher Columbus.

Columbus visited five islands in the Bahamas before reaching Cuba. He named these San Salvador, Santa Maria de la Concepcion, Fernandina, Isabela, and Las Islas de Arena.

Can you believe that I am in the same country where Christopher Columbus first step foot in the New World!! The status is where people here say Christopher Columbus first came on land in the Bahamas.
